چکیده

This paper studies the trade-off between coding and direct-sequence spreading in a code-division multiple-access (CDMA) system, in the presence of errors in the delay estimate. One extreme is when all spreading is done by forward error correcting codes , referred to as code-spread CDMA (CS-CDMA) systems. CS-CDMA systems have been shown to achieve high capacity, assuming perfect channel knowledge. However, estimating channel parameters, is harder in a CS-CDMA system than in a conventional direct-sequence CDMA system. Another effect that pushes the trade-off toward increased spreading, is that, after a certain threshold in the code rate, there will be very little further coding gain by moving to an even lower rate. The optimum trade-off for several sets of system parameters are found by simulations.

Performance Analysis of ZF Pre-Coder and Extended Joint Channel Estimation Method in Downlink CDMA with HPA

In the down link scenario of code division multiple access (CDMA) systems, multi user detectors (MUDs) such as linear de-correlating detector (LDDs) provide satisfactory symbol error rates (SERs) at the expense of much increased complexity, they require all active users’ spreading sequences, which is impractical from privacy point of view. To overcome this impracticality, a simple matched filte...

Multi - Carrier CDMA Mobile Radio Systems - Analysis and Optimization of Detection , Decoding , and Channel Estimation ∗

Performance and flexibility of mobile radio systems essentially depend on the choice of the multiple access scheme. The novel MC-CDMA scheme which is the topic of this thesis is a promising alternative to conventional FDMA, TDMA, and CDMA schemes. With MC-CDMA, each data modulated chip of the user specific spreading code is mapped onto a separate subcarrier, so that the chips of the spreading c...

Nonlinear Multiuser Receiver for Optimized Chaos-Based DS-CDMA Systems

Chaos based communications have drawn increasing attention over the past years. Chaotic signals are derived from non-linear dynamic systems. They are aperiodic, broadband and deterministic signals that appear random in the time domain. Because of these properties, chaotic signals have been proposed to generate spreading sequences for wide-band secure communication recently. Like conventional DS...

Special Issue on Multi-Carrier Spread-Spectrum A new OFDM-CDMA Uplink Concept withM -ary Orthogonal Modulation

This paper proposes the application of M -ary orthogonal Walsh modulation for an OFDM-CDMA uplink transmission. Beside the examination of general system properties, it is shown that decision-directed phase estimation represents a channel estimation concept suitable for the new system. The Walsh modulation can also be interpreted as a linear block code with low decoding complexity, and the paper...

Spreading Code Assignment Strategies for MIMO-CDMA Systems Operating in Frequency-Selective Channels

Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) and multiple input multiple output(MIMO-) CDMA systems suffer from multiple access interference (MAI) which limits the spectral efficiency of these systems. By making these systems more power efficient, we can increase the overall spectral efficiency. This can be achieved through the use of improved modulation and coding techniques. Conventional MIMO-CDMA sy...
